1. Likes and dislikes of this project…..any suggestions on how to improve???

I think this project waas great. I like the fact that we got to design and make our prototype. Things i disliked were that we had to do the research, it was a bit difficult to find the ingformation

2. What areas do you think you have improved in from project 1 to project 4?

Motivation and organisation.

3. What further skills would you like to develop over the next few projects?

Organisation, research skills and motivation.

  • How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?
  • I feel that the social justice issues are presented ethically or unethically depending on the article but the media usually goes against the article.

Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?

Yes it has been easy as our topic is global warming and it affects all around the world. There are articles about different countries associating with global warming.

    1. Analyse why red sunsets can sometimes be more impressive when there is more dust or pollution in the air than usual.

The red sunset are created from a process called scattering in which the molecules of gas and dust particles, in the atmosphere alter the direction of light ray. At sunrise or sunset, the light has to travel further since the blue rays have scattered more, only red and orange are shown.

    1. Describe what happens inside water droplets to cause a rainbow and explain how you can tell whether a rainbow is a primary or secondary.

The rain droplets act as prisms in the sky. Sometimes the colours will reach our eyes after refracting and undergoing total internal reflection. As the light gets in the droplet, it reflects the colours of the spectrum back out. The rainbow which has from violet down the bottom to the red, it is a primary rainbow and if the red is down the bottom while the violet is up the top, it is a secondary rainbow.

Investigate the two types of sight defect- long-sightedness and short sightedness.

    Find the following information:

    1. what causes the defect

Long-sightedness or hyperopia is a defect of vision because the eye is too short or when the lens cannot become round enough. The cause of the defect are not well understood.

    1. the symptoms displayed

The symptoms can include of affecting the ability to focus, headaches and tiredness. Long-sightedness is where you have problems seeing things close up.

    1. propose what sort of lens may be used to correct each vision.

Convex lens should do the trick.

    a. what causes the defect

Short-sided or myopia is adefect of vision because the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too steep.

    a. the symptoms displayed

If you are short-sighted, you may have trouble seeing things far away from you.

     a. propose what sort of lens may be used to correct each vision

Concave lenses should do the trick.

What influences your values about issues relating to your life?
The media, friends and teachers influence my values about issues relating to my life. The media provides us with information everyday. Whether it is sports or economics it influences my understandings of issues that I have. Sometimes they have used hheadlines in a smart way, which makes me think the newspapers way. Teachers and friends could also influence my issues. We see and talk to them almost everyday of our lives. With trends and peer pressure I think they have the biggest impact in influencing our issues.

Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?

I usually don’t relate or compare the values presented by the media to those in the Bible because, it either doesn’t relate to the Bible or I can’t see any relationship or it is hard to find the relationship to those in the Bible.

Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not

Yes it has because I have never examined my values that much. I think this is going to be a challenge throughtout the project.

    What have you learnt?

Today I have learnt that there are different perspectives about things. In today’s lesson, there was an image of an african family standing next to a hut made from rags. Our first thouht was that they were poor, suffering and unhappy. Those people were actually happy and comfortable with what they’ve got. They were stereotyped for example, there are ads for World Vision advertising an african kid living in poverty without parents, this makes us think that they are all like this. I realize to look at the different perspectives of different things and not to decide with my first thoughts. I have also learnt that by listening to our pairs image, we learn more. By presenting what I have thought to my partner also helped me to interact with the activity instead of others presenting the answers for me.

What have you learnt about thinking for ourselves?

I have learnt that thinking for ourselves makes us interact with the activity and suppose that we gain more from it. If we interact and share others understandings, I believe that, that would be the best way of learning. Instead of the teacher feeding us information that half of us doesn’t receive or understand, interactive and sharing others views we would retain more.

    1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu.

    Describe what is a critique.
A critique is like criticising things about an article. Instead of anaylsing the text you would be looking for the differences.

    2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.

In a critique, the four stages are:

    1. The introduction
    2. Summary
    3. Analysis
    4. Evaluation

    3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.
Yes is it can be. At the end, you evaluate the article by weighing the positive aspects and the negative aspects. A critique can be negative, positive or both.

    4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:

In the news report “The Beijing Olympic: Are they are a trap?” is arguing how China has set a trap for the American athletes in the Beijing Olympics. They discuss how China spends billions of dollars for the Olympics but they never know what they are doing.

The video is criticising the Chinese for setting up traps that the Americans aren’t even sure of. How do the Americans know that China is doing this? I have learnt that the Americans are protective about their country.

In the news report “2-year-old Donkey called up to pro donkey basketball” is reporting a 15 month old donkey “Scraps” who is incredible for his age for donkey basketball. Scraps was scouted to play in the A-Class donkey basketball. The report has a good description of the donkey and what the donkey does.

    a.     describe how optical fibre may be used in medical applications

The endoscope is a medical instrument which is based on a optical fibre. The endoscope is used to look inside the body for exmaple, doctors can use this instrument and place it down your throat to view the inside of it.

    b.     identify the traditional medical techniques that optical fibres might replace

    -

    c.  Evaluate the benefits of fibre optic technology to medicine

With the fibre optic technology doctors may find out the illness straight away and may not need to prescribe different medications to patients. They could also examine our inside of our bodies (diseases, research, cures).

    1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.

    1. During this lesson I have learnt that changing few things in an article or media, it seems realistic and believable. I learnt today that  Little changes can affect what we listen or read.
    2. In result the media may be wrong at times due to slight changes of information or resources. I also learnt that media isn’t always right because of the activity that we have performed today.

    2. Identify TWO areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you think need a greater improvement from the last project.

I think I need to use the resources more that were given to me like diigo. I think I’m losing my marks on such an easy task. I also think it will help me more in my projects than as it will give me more useful resources. The second thing that I would like to improve on is teamwork. I think if we co-operate together nothing will be impossible. If we don’t work as a team, I believe this current project will be difficult.

    3. Discuss TWO ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.

Firstly we can set out team roles and consequences, that way we can look back at the contract and decide our decisions. Secondly we should check the rubric and the calendar so there won’t be any quarrels about the work we have to complete. We should also try to work as a team to stop the quarrels and arguments.
